The inspiration behind Nereida was to create a chandelier where each element, whether decorative or functional, is a subject of art. The designers wanted to combine a classic look with modern materials, technologies, and achievements in electronics to create a beautiful, high-quality, and easy-to-use product. The result is a chandelier that not only illuminates a space but also captivates with its intricate details and exquisite craftsmanship.
What sets Nereida apart is its handcrafted stainless steel construction and the use of colored crystal beads instead of traditional pendants. The surface of the steel elements has a polished finish and a gold color that changes with the exposure to light. This unique feature adds a dynamic element to the chandelier, creating a mesmerizing play of colors throughout the day.
The lighting system of Nereida is also a design marvel. The chandelier features powerful LED chips as light sources, which are cooled by decorative handmade copper radiators. These radiators not only serve a functional purpose but also form a beautiful pattern in the lampshades, adding to the overall aesthetic appeal of the chandelier.
The realization of Nereida involved the use of stainless steel tubes of different diameters, which were carefully crafted to create hollow and lightweight elements. This allowed for the concealment of electrical cables, maintaining the chandelier's sleek and elegant appearance. The metal parts underwent a special thermic treatment to achieve the gold color that changes throughout the day, in harmony with the spectral composition of daylight.
With dimensions of 1800mm in width, 1800mm in depth, and 7400mm in height, Nereida is a grand chandelier that demands attention. Weighing 340kg, it is a substantial piece that adds a sense of grandeur to any space. The chandelier is powered by Cree low emitting diodes, consuming 300Watt of power and providing a luminosity of 28000Lm.
Nereida's unique design allows it to seamlessly fit into both classic and ultramodern interiors. Its modular design enables easy customization of the chandelier's height and diameter, while the changeable color and length of the crystal beads allow for further adaptation to the surrounding color scheme. This versatility makes Nereida a truly adaptable and timeless lighting fixture.
The project to create Nereida started in April 2015 and was completed in December 2015 in Odessa, Ukraine. It was a private project that aimed to push the boundaries of design and craftsmanship. The research conducted during the project focused on the influence of thermal impacts on the formation of color envelopes on stainless steel surfaces and the optimization of low emitting diode luminous efficiency. These findings played a crucial role in the development of Nereida's unique features.
Nereida has received recognition for its exceptional design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category in 2017. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. Nereida's integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to a better world through fulfillment and positive feelings make it a deserving recipient of this accolade.
Project Nereida is a testament to the power of combining classic design principles with modern materials and technology. Oleh Syrbu's creation showcases the beauty of stainless steel and crystal, elevating them to new heights of elegance and sophistication. Nereida is not just a chandelier; it is a masterpiece that illuminates spaces and captivates hearts.
